Pittsburgh, the second largest city in the US state of Pennsylvania is an unique place that will keep you occupied with a wealth of attractions. The city at the confluence of three rivers the Monongahela River, the Allegheny River and the Ohio River is dominated by an impressive skyline in the Downtown area known as the Golden Triangle and is home to an array of great museums and a large number of other attractions which suit just about everyone's taste. Pittsburgh, nicknamed as The City of Bridges and The Bridge Capital is a perfect getaway whether you are planning a short weekend break or family holidays.

Walking is the best way to explore the city of Pittsburgh and its attractions but it would be a sin not ride the Duquesne Incline with original 19th century cable cars or the nearby Monongahela Incline. The view of the city from the Mount Washington is truly spectacular. Taking a cruise with one of the Gateway Clipper Fleet offering the view of the city from the three rivers is another great way to admire the Pittsburgh's splendid architecture which reveals the city's rich history as well as influence of its diverse ethnic heritage. In addition to the impressive skyline with the U. S. Steel Tower as the tallest building, the Downtown area is also home to numerous architectural treasures from the late 19th and early 20th centuries such as the Allegheny County Court House, Allegheny County Jail, Benedum-Trees Building, Buhl Building, Byham Theater, City-County Building, First Presbyterian Church, Union Trust Building and many others. Architectural masterpieces can be found on virtually every corner throughout the city marked by unique pocket of neighborhoods each of which has its own character and distinctive architectural styles.

Visitors interested in history will like the Fort Pitt and the Fort Pitt Museum in the Point State Park. Worth visiting is also the Fort Ligonier, a British fortification dating from the French and Indian Wars which is located in Ligonier and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. History buffs will also enjoy an array of historical buildings and places that are found within the city of Pittsburgh which is also home to splendid art museums. The most famous of all is most likely the Andy Warhol Museum dedicated to the famous Pittsburgh-born artist and the largest museum in the United States that is dedicated to a single artist. Worth visiting is also the Carnegie Museum of Art housing an impressive collection of art works from the late 17th century to the contemporary art.

In addition to the Carnegie Museum of Art, the Carnegie Institute and Library complex houses the Carnegie Museum of Natural History which will delight children and their parents with its exhibits of local wildlife and dinosaur collection. Worth visiting are also the Carnegie Science Center and the Children's Museum as well as the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium in Highland Park. Another great place for families is the National Aviary which is the largest aviary in the United States and is home to over 600 endangered birds of more than 200 species. For some more thrills visit one of Pittsburgh's amusement parks offering fun to the entire family.
